Project Overview

A multifunctional backyard organized around bright geometric structures, continuous lawns, and a floral corridor pergola, accommodating family dining, quiet relaxation, and horticultural display. Wooden boundaries, a white curved feature wall, and a lightweight flower trellis together create a fresh, welcoming, and lived-in outdoor scene.

This project breaks down a long residential backyard into a sequence of continuous segments: a porch transition, a central lawn, a flower border display, a semi-enclosed lounge, and an outdoor dining area. A white curved feature wall with circular cutout screens forms the visual focal point while preserving sightlines through the space. The lawn accommodates flexible activities, while the perimeter flower borders and a wisteria pergola weave seasonal change throughout the entire circulation path.

The material palette centers on light-toned paving, warm timber fencing, white mineral-textured walls, and selective dark metal accents. Planting features flowering perennials, ornamental grasses, evergreen rounded shrubs, and small trees, creating soft yet clearly defined boundaries. The imagery presented here represents conceptual design and 3D visualization, not a built reality.

Design Details

Design philosophy

With the concept of "a garden gallery for everyday living," geometric structures form the spatial framework, while lawns, flower borders, and living furniture accommodate ever-changing family activities.

  • Use curved lines and circular openings to reduce the monotony of long boundaries.
  • Establish a sense of layering between the open lawn and the semi-enclosed seating areas.
  • Let gardening displays, dining, and lounging share one continuous flow.

Outdoor experience

The space unfolds sequentially from the residential porch: a hardscape transition terrace, a central activity lawn, a feature-wall lounge area, an outdoor dining table, and a flower-border display corner. Each zone remains visually connected to the others while distinct boundaries are established through material transitions and changes in elevation.

  • The central lawn offers a flexible space for family activities.
  • Curved feature wall and long bench form a semi-enclosed living space.
  • Trellises, gardening benches, and dining tables form nodes of slow living.

Materials & planting

Light beige paving, white mineral-textured walls, and warm-toned wooden fencing form a bright foundational palette; perforated brick, timber decking, and lightweight metal furniture add intricate detail, while wisteria, perennial flowers, and ornamental grasses soften the geometric boundaries.

  • Light-colored paving paired with a white curved feature wall
  • Warm-toned wooden fencing, wooden decking, and a circular-patterned screen
  • Wisteria, perennial flower borders, ornamental grasses, and evergreen shrubs
