LANDYUO garden concept showing connected outdoor living and planted zones

Free concept-planning tool

Outdoor Space Planner

Test how dining, lounging, cooking, fire, water, planting and circulation could divide a garden before committing to a detailed layout.

Compare spatial priorities

Build a concept-stage area range

Select the regular household capacity and desired functions. The planner combines published LANDYUO allowances into a range, then shows an indicative share for each zone. It does not decide whether the programme fits a particular site.

People and seating

Enter the regular capacity you want the concept to accommodate, not the largest exceptional gathering.

People seated around one outdoor dining table.

Dedicated relaxed seats outside the dining and fire zones.

Outdoor functions

Choose the concept zones to test. Equipment clearances and regulated safety zones are not included.

A planning footprint for preparation and cooking.

A spatial placeholder only; local fire rules control final clearances.

A concept zone, excluding statutory barriers and equipment design.

An allowance for connecting the selected functions at concept stage.

Published method

LANDYUO planning allowances

These are LANDYUO studio assumptions for early concept comparison. They are openly listed so the result can be understood and challenged. They are not claimed as industry standards.

Method version 2026-08-13

Dining

1.35-1.75 m2 per person + 4-6 m2 shared setup

A concept allowance for the table, occupied chairs and ordinary movement around the setting.

Lounge seating

1.6-2.2 m2 per seat + 2-4 m2 shared setup

A concept allowance for dedicated lounge furniture and its shared arrangement space.

Outdoor kitchen

Compact 5-8 m2; full 10-16 m2

A planning footprint for a preparation or cooking zone, before equipment-specific and code clearances.

Fire zone

Compact 6-10 m2; conversation zone 12-20 m2

A spatial placeholder only. Appliance instructions and local fire rules determine final separation.

Pool or water

Feature 3-6 m2; plunge zone 15-25 m2; swim zone 35-60 m2

A concept footprint that excludes statutory barriers, plant equipment and engineering design.

Planting and transitions

30-45% of selected functional zones

An allowance that prevents the concept from treating every square metre as hard-programmed activity space.

Primary circulation

12%, 18% or 25% of selected functional zones

A concept allowance for connecting functions; it is not an accessibility or emergency-egress assessment.

Calculation

The planner first totals the selected functional zones. It then adds planting and transition space at 30-45% of that subtotal, plus primary circulation at 12%, 18% or 25% according to the selected route pattern. The low and high totals are rounded up to the next 5 m2. Zone percentages use the midpoint of each range and sum to 100%.

How to use the range

Compare priorities

Try several configurations to see which functions dominate the concept before drawing a layout.

Test against measured facts

Compare the range with a verified survey, existing buildings, retained trees and known access constraints.

Keep constraints visible

Treat regulated clearances, engineering, drainage and safety measures as additional project-specific requirements.

Responsibility boundary

Concept planning, not construction guidance

This planner is not a quotation, survey, building standard or construction document. Local planning rules, fire separation, pool safety, accessibility, structure, utilities, drainage, measured dimensions, levels and construction details must be verified by qualified local professionals before design development or construction.

Outdoor space planning questions

Is the Outdoor Space Planner a construction standard?

No. It uses transparent LANDYUO concept-planning allowances to compare spatial priorities. It is not a building code, measured survey, construction document or professional certification of site capacity.

What does the estimated range include?

The range combines the selected dining, lounge, kitchen, fire and water zones with concept-stage allowances for planting transitions and primary circulation. It does not add regulatory setbacks, pool barriers, equipment rooms, retaining structures or utility infrastructure.

What must a local professional verify?

Local planning rules, fire separation, pool safety, accessibility, structure, utilities, drainage, measured dimensions, levels and construction details must be checked by qualified professionals in the project location.

Is the result a design fee or construction quotation?

No. The result is a spatial planning range in square metres and square feet. It does not estimate LANDYUO fees, contractor prices, materials, planting or construction costs.

Can I share the same planner configuration?

Yes. After updating the range, use Copy share link. The URL records the six planner choices so another person can open the same configuration.
